Following the publication of Boat International’s Global Order Book 2022, one category of new-build vessels has seen a higher increase in demand than any other category of superyacht – find out more.
Each year, the market for new-build vessels changes according to global trends and client demands. This year, we have seen a positive uplift, with 1,024 projects in build or on order – marking an increase of 24.7 per cent on last year’s figure of 821.
According to the statistics published in Boat International’s Global Order Book 2022, one of the leading categories of new-build superyachts on order is explorer yachts, which are built more rugged to withstand adverse weather conditions in remote locations including Patagonia, Southern America and the Arctic. Many of these vessels have the capacity to carry submarines, offroad vehicles and other specialized research equipment.
Up until now, 2022 has seen ‘85 explorer yachts on order, which is an increase of 32% on 2021, and 55% compared to the 2015-2019 average – making this sector the largest increase than any other category.’ – Boat International.
Since the pandemic, and increased number of superyacht owners are looking for a bit more adventure in remote destinations and, as a result, explorer yachts have grown increasingly popular.

BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
There are some 60 British Virgin Islands, but the largest four are grouped fairly close together, placing them among the best Caribbean yacht charter destinations, 2021.
Enjoy surfing or shopping in Tortola, and dining on seafood and barbecues on Jost Van Dyke. Sunseekers head to the serene beaches of Virgin Gorda, while Anegada offers snorkelling among its beautiful coral reefs and tunnels.

GUADELOUPE
Another of the best Caribbean yacht charters, this butterfly-shaped group of islands is principally made up of two large islands, Basse Terre and Grande Terre, separated by a narrow sea channel. Here you can find tropical rainforests, plantations and sandy beaches, while the surrounding waters are full of live coral reefs. There are gorgeous bays to the south, and superb snorkelling and diving around nearby Pigeon Island, where the Jacques Cousteau Reserve is based.

SURGE IN SUPERYACHT SALES
Superyacht sales surged in late 2020 when an increase in brokerage activity resulted in December becoming the second strongest single month for brokerage sales since 2009, according to BOAT Pro data.
The month’s 57 sales eclipsed the 42 recorded in December 2019 and the 38 in 2018. Figures show that the second half of 2020 was the best six months for brokerage sales since 2009, while the fourth quarter of the year was also the best on record.
Brokers are putting this surge down to the pandemic, with the world’s wealthiest travellers becoming frustrated with lockdowns and restrictions. The easing of Coronavirus restrictions in the latter half of 2020 gave people a chance to inspect yachts, spurring activity. As one broker put it, “there’s no greater freedom than the navigation of the seas.”

With her generous range, HALO’s new owner is set to enjoy the kind of freedom most can only dream of.
